Advice Dog is a meme originating in the summer of 2008, in which the head of a dog photoshopped onto a multi-colored background offers advice on a wide variety of subjects. Due to the potentially catastrophic results of following said advice, Advice Dog bears the aliases Bad Advice Dog, Danger Dog, and The Craft Clever Canine of Conscience Corruption. Widely hailed as original content, Advice Dog and his myriad variations have become increasingly popular over the last year.

Origins

There is an on-going debate on the origins of Advice Dog, between 4chan's /b/ imageboard and a less-well-known Super Mario Brothers fan forum. The only thing they agree on is that the meme was forced. The dog used in the pictures, originally taken in July of 2006, is named Boba Fett, but Boba's owner has never stepped forward to offer more information on the animal or the meme. On July 5, 2008, one of many Advice Dog images became the 76,000,000 GET on /b/.

Usage

While Advice Dog is often used to convey a message, the most popular method involves linking unrelated pieces of advice together or mixing a piece of good and bad advice, such as "Do the laundry; rob a bank."
