Broccoli DogFrom WhatPort80“Broccoli Dog” is an exploitable image of a dog seated at a table with a plate of broccoli in front of him, in which he takes an understandable disinterest. Often, the words “Do Not Want” appear on the image, although this is simply an instance of the larger “Do Not Want” meme which started a few months prior. It’s not entirely clear if the dog’s image originated from “do not want” or something earlier. However, here is a large body of instances in which the dog’s head has been replaced, alternate captions are written, and has been otherwise shooped into new contexts.
OriginThe origin of the photo is currently unknown, and largely undocumented, although it resembles the dog of e-celebrity DracoGuard. The earliest instance seen seems to be a YTMND created November 6th, 2005 by user AnimalChin. The odd part is that this YTMND only has 781 views and only 2.17 stars. Stupid dog.” Variations of the “Do Not Want” dog image macro from February of 2007 can be found on the Something Awful forums in a thread titled Image Thread 2000. In April of 2007, the “Do Not Want” dog is referenced in MentalFloss.
