CP is short for Child Pornography.

It is almost the only thing that is taboo on /b/. Posting CP will get you banned everywhere, because it is illegal to possess CP no matter where you are IRL. Additionally, there may be legal consequences if you accidentally view child pornography, due to the way that your browser caches images on your hard drive.

4chan's obsession with doing "naughty" things has resulted in CP surfacing and being banned worldwide, as well as becoming a sort of meme in itself: often people will post "CP THREAD!" and everyone will proceed to accidentally misunderstand the acronym and reply with other things with the initials C P. Canned Peaches, Chewy Peanuts and most famously Star Trek's Captain Picard are examples.

Wikipedia has had its own drama with CP, being blocked from being accessed by most of the United Kingdom due to an image of an album cover "Virgin Killer" which may or may not meet the definition of child pornography. No court anywhere in the world has to date ruled on this, and in the interim Wikipedia continues to host the image as they claim to be an uncensored wiki. WP80 does not tolerate pornographic material in general, so if you were thinking of adding pictures to this article - don't. What if we link to pictures using tinypic?
