Typical Internet Disease.

Internet Disease, colloquially known as Myspace Voodoo or The Angles, involves posting old, faded, blurred or otherwise non-descript photographs of oneself, usually taken in bad lighting and at awkward angles, in order to make you appear more attractive than you actually are. Internet Disease was the natural evolution of similar phenomena in older forms of media.

Techniques

Fat Girl Angle Shot

If nobody can see your giant thighs, they don't exist. Easily recognized by the subject holding their arm up and taking a photo straight down or standing over the camera and peering down in to the lens.

High Contrast

By over-saturating the image, one can obscure unattractive facial features, like acne and the nose.

Low Contrast

On the flip side, converting the image to sepia tone or black and white will not only hide acne, but will make you appear thoughtful and/or artistic. A bonus if you have no actual personality.

Other Techniques

  • Misleading thumbnail.
  • Old pictures.
  • Lens flare.
