Since the stone ages, the socially inept have struggled to keep up with the rest of society and the Internet, like real life, can be a difficult place to fit in. At the dawn of humanity, being an outcast would get you eaten by a sabertooth tiger. Now, it gets you a LiveJournal, MySpace, and various picture sharing services so that the entire world can witness the train wreck of your life.

How? Why?

1. You come to the realization that some people are cool and popular.
2. You come to the realization that you, on the other hand, are not.
3. You watch the cool and popular people closely and note their actions and behaviors which you believe make them cool and popular.
4. You attempt to repeat said actions and behaviors, not realizing that they are unfamiliar and uncharacteristic and you look like an idiot.

Examples

Real Life

• Wearing T-shirts with witty slogans, in the hope that people will actually believe you're a funny person and appreciate you.
• Quoting movies or books whenever possible, in the hope that people will actually believe you're smart and admire you.
• Buying an Apple computer.

Online

• Excessive, incorrect use of memes and phrases.
• Typing "!!!1" every time you mean to use an exclamation point.
• Remarking that every single picture you see must have been Photoshopped.
