In the era of web 2.0, many netizens get impression that they have the power, at any given time, to create their own movement -- blind to the fact that community they represent is essentially controlled by a group of executives geared on exploiting them, lol. So next time you make a thread, remember, X is not your personal army, and you probably have a serious case of unwarranted self-importance.
Asking for help in this fashion may result in a backlash known as Reverse Personal Army.
X can be
Reverse Personal Army
If somebody makes a Personal Army request on 4chan or any chan really, it's certain that the resident basement-dwellers and HACKERS ON STEROIDS aren't going to be too happy about their ocean of uretic egestion being made slightly deeper, and will be quite enraged. The Personal Army requester will accidentally give away some of their own information, and the /b/tards, seeing someone even more pathetic than they are know that they need to get trolled seriously bad.
How it works
Say that, for the sake of example, someone went onto a board like /b/ or /i/ and requested that "Please troll this kind in my class, i hate him, here's his myspace, and phone number, he is an emo and doesn't like the things that I do and reported my illegal activities,". It's clear to even the most sociopathic of Anonymous that the one requesting a personal army is the massive idiot, and not the one who he's trying to get raided. So the stage is set for a Reverse Personal Army. What happens next is is a backlash against the OP.
In this example, the OP has revealed that he knows his preferred raiding target in real life, so it's pretty clear that the kid with the myspace - who we'll call Spengbab for this example - would know him too. And if the OP - who we'll call Pikaman - also uses social networking, this sets the stage for internet detective work. Sometimes, the PA requester has gone ahead and started to troll their target, and for the sake of example, that's what Pikaman has already started doing.
A common tactic that comes next is the /b/tards or /i/nsurgents searching for Pikaman's dox or details about his real life or email address, and general internet detective-ing. Some of the people trying to pull a Reverse Personal Army will go to Spengbab with a screenshot of the thread Pikaman made requesting a personal army and show it to him in a chat or something similar, and try to get information about Pikaman from Spengbab.
Things may start to get even more epic as Pikaman's IRL dox are found and posted on /b/ and /i/ so they can proceed to use them against him with tactics such as ordering pizza's to his house, constant prank calls and leaving dog poop in his yard. Eventually, the tactics die down after Pikaman has FREAKED OUT MAN, and lulz are had all round.
Variations
- Sometimes no IRL trolling happens at all, either because Pikaman would be behind seven proxies, or because nobody wanted to do the IRL trolling.
- Things will be taken up a notch every now and then with a screencap of a PA request being sent to the OP's employer or principal so that they know just how naughty they've been.
- Anyone who's been PA requested is pretty much exempt from future trolling.
- For extreme cases, the OP's IP address will be discovered and he will have his internet priviliges revoked.
